SynBERC SLC leads synbio summit at PVAMU

Members of SynBERC’s Student Leadership Council (SLC) visited Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) on Monday, April 20 to host a summit on synthetic biology. The meeting was designed to spark interest among PVAMU students and faculty, as well as highlight the synbio research activities already going on in the Cuero Lab.

The plenary session included an introduction by Jonathan Goler about the practice of synthetic biology, a discussion of several students’ research projects and experiences, and a question and answer period during which PVAMU students probed the nature of synthetic biology and its social ramifications. After lunch, the students toured the labs of a number of PVAMU researchers, and then visited the goat farm (photo). The visit culminated in a barbeque dinner – and many new relationships.
